Dental Fluorosis — Prognosis

Enamel hypomineralization from excessive fluoride ingestion during tooth development

Prognosis

Dental fluorosis is a permanent condition — the affected enamel cannot regenerate. However, it is a stable defect that does not progress.

Mild-to-moderate fluorosis responds very well to microabrasion and bleaching, with excellent aesthetic outcomes.

Severely fluorosed teeth may require extensive restorative treatment and lifelong maintenance.

Paradoxically, teeth with fluorosis are actually MORE resistant to dental caries due to their higher fluoride content — fluorosis is an aesthetic concern, not a caries risk factor.
