Prognosis
Mild pericoronitis resolves completely with local measures in 3-5 days.
Recurrence is common if the tooth is not extracted or the operculum not removed — reported recurrence rate of 65% in patients treated conservatively.
Prognosis is excellent following definitive surgical treatment (extraction or operculectomy).
Fascial space infections carry significant morbidity and potential mortality without prompt aggressive treatment, particularly Ludwig's angina (bilateral submandibular, sublingual, and submental space infection).
