Prevention
- Adequate coronal seal after root canal treatment to prevent re-infection
- Timely crown placement after root canal treatment (within 3 months)
- Radiographic follow-up of all root canal treated teeth
- Prompt retreatment or surgery for non-healing periapical lesions
- Prevention of pulp necrosis (see dental caries and trauma prevention)
- Quality root canal treatment: adequate working length, complete obturation, no ledging
