- Early extraction of impacted wisdom teeth before pericoronitis develops
- Excellent oral hygiene around partially erupted teeth using soft brushes and irrigation
- Chlorhexidine gel application under the operculum if early pericoronal inflammation noted
- Removal of opposing maxillary third molar if it repeatedly traumatizes the mandibular pericoronal tissue
