History-taking in CASE-015 now has a face to talk to
For teachers of history-taking: CASE-015 gives the group a way to compare what students heard, the order of their questions and what it means for the examination, while the existing assessment stays unchanged.
Version 1.31.0 of the paediatric cardiology case CASE-015, live since 5 November, shows the mother as a three-dimensional character in the history-taking scene. When the student picks a question for her, the character speaks the answer and her face moves in time with the recording. All eleven of her recorded answers work this way, using the recordings the case already had; the questions, the answer text, the scoring and the endings are the same as in the previous version.
Where the character appears, and the one answer that changed form
The arrival slides that open the case stay as they were and load no 3D at all; the character appears only once the student reaches the history. One answer used to play as a video clip in place of the picture: whether there had been spells before. In the 3D scene that clip is no longer shown, and the same character speaks this answer like the rest.
A seminar built around the conversation
Put the run on the projector and let one student question the mother while the rest of the group writes down what she said, then compare their notes with the visit log.
Stop after the history and ask the group which of her answers changed what they plan to look for at the examination.
Give the same questioning to a second student and compare the order in which each of them got to the earlier spells and the maternity-hospital diagnosis.
Check the classroom computer before the seminar
The character is a large download: the model alone is about 59 MB, on top of the player. While it loads, the scene shows «Loading character… N%». If it does not load, the scene keeps its still picture and the mother's recordings and text keep working, so the run goes on. The 3D scene is built for desktop computers; phones are outside its scope and are not tested. Open the history once on the computer you will use in class.
The case is written in Russian and does not yet carry a clinical reviewer's sign-off. Before grading students by it, check its expected steps against the guideline your department teaches from.
