The department's e-learning module, inside the course instead of a second system

For methodologists and teachers using SCORM, xAPI or cmi5: VARGATES Medical now keeps a student's place in an uploaded module and includes the reported completion in course progress and the certificate.

The lesson editor has a «Learning package» block. Its upload field accepts a ZIP file of up to 500 MB in one of four formats: SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI (Tin Can) or cmi5. If the lesson already has its own written content, the package is not attached and that content stays readable.

A long module can be done in several sittings

The platform stores where the student stopped. When a SCORM module is opened again, it starts from that point rather than from the first screen; a repeated cmi5 launch keeps the saved bookmark as well. If the module fails to start, the lesson offers «Try again».

Completion counts like any other lesson

A message from inside the package window cannot mark the lesson done on its own: the status is taken from the server's record of what the package reported, and that record feeds course progress and the certificate.

An uploaded package cannot reach the student's cabinet

Each launch receives a permission tied to the student, the organisation, the lesson and the current package, and it cannot be used to sign in to the cabinet. Before any file of the package is read, every request checks again that the student is still a member of the organisation and still has access to the material.

Where it fits in a course

  • Place the department's theory module before a clinical case on the same topic, when that order suits your lesson plan.

  • Keep a module the department already has together with the course's other lessons, instead of sending students to a second system.

  • Split a long module across the week: students return to their saved place.

On the live platform, all four formats were checked in the author preview in Chromium in a 1440 px window and on a 375 px screen: they launched, saved and resumed. Completion and the certificate were covered by the automated test suite, not by an enrolled student on the live platform. Safari has not been confirmed, and there is no guarantee that an arbitrary package adapts to a phone screen. Before assigning a package to a group, take it from start to finish with a test student account.
